Childs - ExodusCompared to some books (e.g., Genesis), there are not as many good commentaries to chose from when we turn to the book of Exodus. From a critical perspective, Childs‘s commentary was ground-breaking. While a bit dated, it is a good example of how to balance critical concerns with theological exposition. Perhaps his best work. Propp is good for a critical perspective, while Durham also deals with many of the historical critical issues of the book, he also provides some theological reflection. On the popular side there are more options. Pastors will find Fretheim and Gowan useful, while they and lay readers will benefit from Cole and Enns.
