Amos

The message of the book of Amos against the economic inequities of his day is just as relevant in the twenty-first century. There are a number of excellent commentaries to help us enter Amos’s world. The critical commentaries by Andersen and Freedman, Jèorg, Mays, Soggin, and Wolff are all excellent, though Shalom Paul‘s stands out among them as my favourite. Once again the more popular commentaries by Achtemeier, Craigie, Hubbard, Limburg, Sweeney, and Smith are all quite good, though Stuart is quite accessible as well.
