Help with 1970s Pop Culture Reference

OK, this may seem a bit strange, but I want some help to identify a 1970s pop culture reference. I was watching the music video for Everclear’s song “AM Radio” and for the life of me I can’t recall the name of a TV show/movie that is referenced in the video. Here are some image captures:

If anyone can help me here, it would be much appreciated as it is kind of bugging me!

The video, by the way, is quite clever. It has references to Kojak, Brady Bunch, American Bandstand, Pong, The land Before Time, among others.

  1. Yup- H.R. Puffenstuff. (I can’t imagine the erroneous spelling used above… you guys must be too young to have actually watched the show- heck, I still remember the theme song!)

  2. It is, indeed, H.R. Puffenstuff http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puffenstuff I grew up here in Atlanta and, believe it or not, back in the 70’s, we had a Sid & Marty Kroft indoor amusement park here. It was in what is now the CNN tower. I have only vagur memories of visiting, but those vague memories are quite strange. It was only open for 6 months. Wikipedia has some material on it.

  3. H. R. Puffenstuff!!!! My absolute favorite! Followed by the Bugaloos, the Banana Splits, and Lidsville! Of course, Jonny Quest is up there, too, but I only saw re-runs of that. Sigh.
